There is still much confusion in the city electorate about the city powers, charter, and how to vote.

I encourage you all to participate in the Candidate forum on Monday night, February 27 from 7:30pm – 9:00pm at Christ the King Lutheran Church on Highway 141.

The city elected city council by charter acts on issues related to planning and zoning, code enforcement, and sanitation/trash.  The Council consists of 6 council members and the mayor.

Three of the council members represent council members represent the three residential districts in the city.  Voters will vote for a candidate in post 1,2, or 3 depending upon your address.  In addition, you will vote for three(3) At Large candidates, one in post 4, 5, and 6 plus the mayor (unopposed).

The City of Peachtree Corners has chosen to be a “city lite”; a city that believes in limited government, yet a city that enables the citizens in it’s boundaries the privilege of self-determination and an open government that provides citizens the opportunity to be engaged through referendum in determining city future choices.

I would be honored to serve as the city council member for At Large Post 5 which is a city wide post.  I believe in limited open government, fiscal responsibility, and citizen accessibility to public information.  What our new city becomes is up to you the voters, it is the responsibility of council members to represent your interests and to make the best decisions possible based on the information available to serve you well.  My past experience in business, education, and community service for over 30 years in our community, county, state, and international has enabled me to achieve results by finding where we can agree and move forward.  Open and timely communication with our citizenry will be important to our city success.  You are the difference.

17 Days Remaining

While there was a small turnout at the Meet & Greet this afternoon at Grouchy’s New York Deli, it gave us chance to spend more time discussing our views.  We are grateful to Grouchy’s creating this opportunity.  In the coming months, the citizens of Peachtree Corners will witness the birth of a new city and the implementation of the charter mission.  This is uncharted territory for each one of our communities.  The unknown breeds FUD — Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt — and misinformation, and can best be addressed by having an informed citizenry.  As an educator, business woman, and civic leader, I have seen that listening to the community and open communication provide a better environment for success in any endeavor. We need you to be engaged in our new city.

My experience has taught me to consider a common set of questions to evaluate issues.  As your city council representative for Peachtree Corners City Council — At Large, Post 5, I will first ask the following questions:

1. Is it in the charter?
2. Is it right thing to do?
3. Is it needed?
4. Can we afford it?

I will provide you, the citizens, with information about the issues and ask for input.

Having worked on the formation of the city, I am very aware of what the Charter allows the city to do.  We are a city of very limited powers.  The City Council cannot expand these powers.  The power can only be expanded through State Legislative action.

The answers to the other questions come from our communities.  Our communities are not just the neighborhoods where we reside.  Our communities extend to our places of worship, volunteer organizations, business networks, and social groups.  Each of these communities will provide valuable insight for me and other council members elected.

Please vote on March 6 and make a difference, it’s our city.

Meet the Peachtree Corners Candidates at 3 Upcoming Forums!

UPCCA will be hosting three Peachtree Corners City Council Candidate Forums over the eight days. The dates and moderators are listed below.

• Jim Blum, District One, Monday, January 30, 2012.
• Bert Nasuti, District Two, Tuesday, January 31, 2012.
• Judge Warren Davis, District Three, Monday, February 6, 2012.

The eleven At-Large candidates have been invited to participate in all three forums.

All forums will be held at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 5575 Peachtree Parkway, in the Fellowship Hall. Time is 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm.

Time is Drawing Closer to the Inaugural Election of Our New Peachtree Corners City Council

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

The time is drawing closer to the inaugural election of our new Peachtree Corners City Council.  The next few weeks will be very busy as we approach the March 6th election.  I want to thank you for your support to-date, and ask for your help with three specific things this week:

1. Register to Vote — The February 6th deadline to register to vote in the March 6th election is fast approaching. If you are not registered to vote, please do so now. It is a simple process; follow the link here, complete the online application, print and mail.  Please forward this to your friends and neighbors.  Please make your voice heard in this important inaugural election for Peactree Corners.
2. Yard Signs — Thank you to everyone who has placed a sign in your yard already.  We currently have over 100 signs visible, and we want to continue to increase those numbers.  If you do not have a sign and would like one, please let me know and we will get one delivered to you.  Please ask your friends and neighbors if they would be willing to display a sign.  Visibility is key.
3. Attend the UPCCA Candidate Forums — We are very fortunate to have a group of 19 dedicated citizens offering their service to our community.  It is important that you get to know the candidates and make an informed
   decision on whom you elect.

The UPCCA will be hosting a three forums over the next two weeks.  The forums will be held at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 5575 Peachtree Parkway, in the Fellowship Hall, from 7:30 to 9:00 pm.

• Post3 Candidate Forum, Monday, February 6, 2012.

At-Large Candidates are invited to attend ALL of the forums.  I am committed to be at all three forums.

I urge you to attend the one for your post and hope you will encourage your friends and neighbors to come.  I will have a table set up at each forum.  Please come by to pick up valuable information.

Being encouraged by many friends, I am running for Peachtree Corners City Council At Large Post 5.  In doing so, I need your support and assistance.

To be successful in this endeavor to serve you, it will take a very strong and dedicated grass roots organization and funding to ensure visibility for my campaign to serve you by “Building Bridges and Connecting Communities” as we progress as a new city.  I am asking you to assist me in this effort.  We have estimated the campaign will cost approximately $8,000 – $10,000 to create the visibility necessary to become elected.  I need your support in getting the word out about my campaign, your assistance in hosting events for me to meet your neighbors, and your financial support.
